Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limits.

Mr. D. Costello asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider [766] the imposition of a speed limit in built-up areas.

Minister for Local Government (Mr. O'Donnell): The existing law does not enable a general speed limit applicable to all built-up areas to be imposed. Proposals for amending road traffic legislation are being prepared but I cannot say whether the proposals that may eventually be approved by the Government will include a provision to alter the law in the direction suggested by the Deputy.
