Dáil Éireann - Volume 148 - 23 February, 1955 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parliamentary Secretary to the Government. Mr. Brady Mr. Brady Mr. Brady asked the Taoiseach what executive functions are performed by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government, what branch of Government activities are administered by him, and what staff is assigned to him. The Taoiseach John Aloysius Costello The Taoiseach: When the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government was appointed to that office, on my nomination, it was decided not to assign to him any specific functions of an executive character or responsibility for any branch of administration. As the Deputy is, no doubt, aware, the Parliamentary Secretary is an economist who, in addition, has had the advantage of many years' experience of important administrative work in relation to the national finances. By devoting his time to assisting the Government and myself in the formulation of economic and financial policy and in the examination of particular economic and financial problems as they arise, he is performing a valuable public service, and it is in this way that his special ability, knowledge and experience can, at present, be best utilised in the national interest. The staff assigned to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government comprises a private secretary and a clerical assistant. Dáil Éireann 148 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers.
