Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Justice whether he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation to provide a free legal aid scheme for poor persons.

Mr. Everett: The question of providing legal aid for poor persons in criminal proceedings is receiving consideration but I am not at present in a position to say when a decision will be taken in the matter.
