Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Performances by Hypnotist.

Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that at public performances a performing hypnotist has hypnotised citizens and permitted them to wander in the public streets in a hypnotised condition, and, if so, if he will prohibit or regulate such performances.

Minister for Justice (Mr. Everett): I am informed that on a few occasions some persons who had voluntarily permitted themselves to be hypnotised by a music hall artist remained under hypnotic influence for some minutes after they had left the theatres. The parties concerned are stated to have suffered no ill-effects and they made no complaints to the Garda.

[333] Mr. Lemass: What about the electorate?

Mr. Desmond: Is the Minister aware that on the occasion of one of these performances the people failed to find the leprechauns that the hypnotist promised?

Mr. Lemass: They even failed to find a reduction in the cost of living.

Mr. Sweetman: So the Deputy does not know even yet what hit him.
