Dáil Éireann - Volume 144 - 10 March, 1954 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Pay Scales. Mr. A. Byrne Mr. A. Byrne 1447 [1447] Mr. A. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the disparity which exists in the rates of pay of the Garda Síochána and the Northern Ireland Police consequent on the increase recently granted to the latter, he will give favourable consideration to the request of the Garda Síochána for a further examination of their pay scales. Mr. Boland Mr. Boland Mr. Boland: I cannot accept the implications in the Deputy's question that in fixing the pay of the Garda Síochána regard should be had to the pay of the police in the Six Counties or elsewhere. I am willing now, as always, to consider any representations that may be made by the representative bodies, but as there has been no material change in the cost of living since the last increase of pay was granted in 1953, and as the basic rates were revised as recently as 1951, I cannot, at the present time, hold out any hope of a further increase. Mr. A. Byrne Mr. A. Byrne Mr. A. Byrne: Would the Minister say if he has received from the representative body representations of recent date that have not yet been replied to? Mr. Boland Mr. Boland Mr. Boland: They have not come as far as me, but full consideration will be given to them, as always. Dáil Éireann 144 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers.
