Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Iveragh Afforestation Schemes.

Mr. J. Flynn asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the demand for afforestation schemes in Iveragh; and, if so, if he will arrange the establishment of a forestry centre at Mastergeehy with a view to the initiation of afforestation schemes in Cahirciveen, Filemore and other areas.

Mr. Derrig: A commencement of forestry operations in the barony of Iveragh was made with the opening of Killorglin Forest and there are prospects of extension in the area.

An area of land in the Mastergeehy area which was offered for sale for forestry purposes has been found on recent inspection to be unsuitable for [190] acquisition. There are no other offers in this district, nor have any offers been received in the Filemore or Cahirciveen areas.
