Murphy asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware of the grave discontent among the recipients of old age and widows' and orphans' pensions due to the inadequacy of the amounts payable, having regard to the present cost of living; and, if so, if he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to increase the allowances.
