Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Post Office Appointment.

Mr. Crotty asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state [698] if he has yet sanctioned an appointment to the position of sub-postmaster in Gowran, County Kilkenny; and, if so, the name and the qualifications of the new appointee.

Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. Childers): Mr. James Lennon has been appointed.

It is not the practice to furnish information regarding the claims or qualifications of candidates for sub-postmasterships or other similar appointments as it would be difficult to do so without disclosing information obtained in confidence either from, or concerning, those persons.

Mr. Crotty: Would the Minister state how many applications he had for this position?

Mr. Childers: I have not that information.

Mr. Crotty: Would the Minister state when the inspection of premises took place?

Mr. Childers: I have not that information.

Mr. Crotty: In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply I give notice that, with your permission, I propose to raise this matter on the Adjournment so that I may get more information.
