Mr. Corry asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the delay in sanctioning the scheme for the provision of 11 houses at the New Barracks, Fermoy.

Mr. Smith: Tenders for this scheme have been invited twice and on each occasion the prices quoted were very high as compared with the cost of county council houses with larger floor areas in the immediate vicinity of Fermoy. The council has been advised to request the architect to investigate the possibility of eliminating any unnecessary items of expenditure as the development costs, in particular, appeared unduly high.
