Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost-of-Living Index.

Mr. MacBride asked the Taoiseach if he will give particulars of the cost-of-living index for food at mid-February, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1953.

Donnchadh Ó Briain: The cost-of-living index numbers for food at mid-February, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952 and 1953 were 97, 98, 98, 109 and 122, respectively (base: August, 1947=100).

Mr. Morrissey: Is the Taoiseach still of opinion that wages have kept step with these increases?

An Ceann Comhairle: That is a separate question.

Mr. Morrissey: No—“kept step with these increases”?

An Ceann Comhairle: Particulars of the cost-of-living index are asked for here and what the Deputy is asking would not be relevant.

Mr. Morrissey: I am merely asking him to repeat what he said outside.

Dr. Ryan: You cannot repeat what you said outside.
