Dáil Éireann - Volume 139 - 28 May, 1953 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Unemployment Centre. Mr. S. Collins Mr. S. Collins 184 [184] Mr. S. Collins asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will establish a centre at Cahermore to enable unemployed people to sign on there. Mr. Kennedy Mr. Kennedy Mr. Kennedy: It is assumed that the Cahermore referred to is the townland of that name near Allihies, County Cork. Unemployed persons in that townland are required to attend at Allihies Garda Station about five miles distant, to have evidence of unemployment certified once weekly for the purpose of obtaining unemployment assistance or unemployment benefit. Only in most exceptional circumstances would the establishment of a signing centre for unemployed persons residing within six miles of an existing centre be considered, and I am not satisfied that the present case would warrant such special treatment.
