Mr. Corry asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the rates payable in home assistance schemes in North, South and West Cork assistance areas, respectively.

Dr. Ryan: I am not in a position to state the rates of home assistance payable in the North, South and West Cork public assistance districts. Home assistance is not paid in accordance with any fixed scale. The amount payable in each particular case is determined by the appropriate public assistance authority in the light of the general circumstances of the applicant and his household and the number of dependents.

Mr. Corry: Is the Minister aware that the difference in the rates both for single and married persons in both [402] these areas is only 50 per cent. of that payable in South Cork?

Dr. Ryan: The local authorities have to make that right.
