Dáil Éireann - Volume 124 - 28 February, 1951
Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Mixture.
Mr. Allen Mr. Allen
Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) the present price of the admixture of maize and milo maize when sold in small quantities of one ton and under, and (ii) the present authorised percentage of the two types of maize in the admixture.
Mr. Dillon Mr. Dillon
Mr. Dillon: The minimum quantity of maize and milo maize which Grain Importers (Éire) Limited is authorised to sell is six tons. The price for sixton lots is £29 per ton, carriage paid to the purchaser's nearest railway station. Otherwise there is no official control over the price which may be charged for maize or milo maize, either whole or in the form of meal.
At present Grain Importers (Éire) Limited is supplying purchasers on the basis of 40 per cent. maize and 60 per cent. milo maize. While it is understood that millers generally supply meal with these proportions of maize and milo maize they are nevertheless free to dispose of the maize and milo maize in the manner best suited to their individual requirements.
Mr. Aiken Mr. Aiken
Mr. Aiken: There is no maize at £20 per ton.
