Dáil Éireann - Volume 121 - 21 June, 1950 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Lands. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands of Reps. Henry Glover, Record No. U.2435, County Roscommon, for the purpose of relieving congestion in the locality. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of these lands but it is not possible to state, at this stage, whether the lands will be acquired. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: Is the Minister aware that this farm comprises approximately 90 acres and that it has been set on the 11-months' system for a number of years past to a very big merchant in the locality? Is he further aware that there are ten or 11 people living in close proximity to the farm with an average valuation of about £5 and that they have to travel about four miles to get some land to till in conacre? In view of that, would the Minister not consider urging the Land Commission to speed up the acquisition of this farm without further delay? Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick 2069 [2069] Mr. Blowick: I told the Deputy that proceedings have been instituted. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: That is not a full answer. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: I should point out to the Deputy that the acquisition of land is not a matter for the Minister but for the commissioners. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: We are sick of hearing that. Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick Mr. Blowick: Such is the law. Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan Mr. McQuillan: The point is that we want as much tillage done in this country as we can get done if we are to have any crops at all. Mr. Smith Mr. Smith Mr. Smith: Hear, hear! Up the Republic! Dáil Éireann 121 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. County Roscommon Lands. Questions 19500621
