Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kanturk Flooding.

Mr. McAuliffe asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether a proposal was sanctioned by him in 1949 under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the relief of flooding in Kanturk, County Cork; and, if so, why the local authority failed to comply with the terms of the proposal.

Mr. Corish: I assume that the Deputy is referring to a proposal to clean the Dalau River at Kanturk, which was submitted last year. I would refer him to the reply which I gave on 30th November last indicating that the work proposed could not be carried out owing to the high level of the river. I understand that the work will probably be undertaken in the near future.

Mr. McAuliffe: In view of the unsatisfactory answer to this question it is my intention, with your permission, Sir, to raise the matter on the Adjournment.
