Dáil Éireann - Volume 112 - 20 July, 1948 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Low Flying Planes. Mr. Rooney Mr. Rooney Mr. Rooney asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that planes bound for Dublin Airport and machines on trial flights fly over the town of Malahide at a dangerously low level, causing annoyance to the residents there; and, if so, whether he will take the necessary remedial steps in this matter. Mr. Morrissey Mr. Morrissey 773 [773] Mr. Morrissey: I am aware that aircraft approaching Dublin Airport pass near to Malahide when the main runway is being used. The Air Navigation Regulations prohibit flying over any city or town except at such altitude as will enable the aircraft to land outside the city or town in the event of engine failure or other mishap. I have no reason to believe that this requirement is not being fully observed, and I do not propose to take any action in the matter. Mr. Rooney Mr. Rooney Mr. Rooney: Is the Minister aware that some of these machines fly below the legal height? Mr. Morrissey Mr. Morrissey Mr. Morrissey: My information is that they do not. Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe Mr. Briscoe: They must fly low if the cloud base is low. Dáil Éireann 112 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. Low Flying Planes. Questions 19480720
