Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Industry Decline.

[605] Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has received a resolution from the Piltown Co-operative Agricultural and Dairy Society, Limited, with reference to the decline in the dairy industry resulting from the uneconomic and inadequate price of milk; and if so, if he will state whether he has considered the matter and what steps he proposes to take to deal with the problem.

Mr. Smith: The Deputy has no doubt seen the announcement made by the Government in the matter in this morning's Press.

Mr. Hughes: Arising out of the Minister's reply, will the Minister ensure that the people who are producing butter on the farm will get a pro rata increase in their price? A special financial provision is made to subsidise creamery butter but the people producing on the farm will not get the benefit of that subsidy.

Mr. Smith: The situation in that regard is no different from what it was.
