Dáil Éireann - Volume 99 - 14 February, 1946

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teachers' Salaries.

Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if he has any statement to make to Dáil Éireann with reference to teachers' salaries.

Minister for Education (Mr. Derrig): I have no statement to make at present regarding salary scales for national teachers.

Mr. Flanagan: In view of the serious situation that is likely to arise as a result of a strike, which would mean the closing down of the schools——

An Ceann Comhairle: Now, the Deputy must ask a supplementary question if he has one. I might point out that supplementaries tend to increase in length.

Mr. Flanagan: Very well, Sir. In view of the seriousness of the position, does the Minister not think it wise to make a statement in this House as to his future action in regard to this matter?

Mr. Derrig: No.

Mr. Flanagan: Well, that is definite enough at any rate.
