Dáil Éireann - Volume 99 - 14 February, 1946
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - German Children for Éire.
Mr. Flanagan Mr. Flanagan
Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will make a statement as to the reasons for the delay in receiving German children in Éire in cases where suitable homes have been offered by Irish citizens, and if he can give any indication of whether there is any possibility of early arrival of such children.
The Taoiseach Eamon de Valera
The Taoiseach: The delay is not due to any circumstances within the control of this Government. The difficulties to which I referred in the course of my reply to the Deputy on the 18th October still persist. The Irish Red Cross Society are, however, continuing their efforts to make arrangements for the reception of a number of children from Central Europe in this country, and every effort will be made to provide whatever facilities may be required. In the meantime, people desiring to assist in the work should communicate with the Red Cross Society.
