Dáil Éireann - Volume 95 - 19 October, 1944 Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - North Galway Military Service Pensions. Mr. Donnellan Mr. Donnellan Mr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Defence if he will state how many pensions were awarded to applicants purporting to be on active service in the Tuam or North Galway Brigade under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924; the amount given, with the name and address in each case, and who verified for them in each case; also what was the approximate or estimated strength of North Galway Brigade as submitted by the then verifying officers of the “first critical date”, and from what date did these verifying officers claim to be in a position to verify for the applicants. Mr. Donnellan Mr. Donnellan 372 [372] Mr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Defence if he will state, with reference to each of the verifying officers for the Tuam or North Galway Brigade (a) their military status or rank; (b) who verified for them; (c) their period of service with the brigade; (d) their period of service with the National Army; (e) the nature of the certificate awarded; (f) the number of years' service granted, and (g) the amount of money granted. Mr. Donnellan Mr. Donnellan Mr. Donnellan: asked the Minister for Defence whether the Headford, County Galway, Battalion, I.R.A., was included or incorporated with Tuam or North Galway Brigade for the purpose of assessing pensions during the “first critical date” under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924. Minister for Defence (Mr. Traynor) Oscar Traynor Minister for Defence (Mr. Traynor): I propose taking collectively Deputy Donnellan's questions Nos. 36, 37 and 39. The records, other than the findings, of the Board of Assessors are highly confidential documents, and the findings of the board are by statute binding on all persons and tribunals. A list of pensioners under the 1924 Act residing in County Galway showing the amount of pension in each case can be supplied to the Deputy if he so desires. It is contrary to the practice of the Department to disclose the addresses of pensioners. Dáil Éireann 95 Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. North Galway Military Service Pensions.
