Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Noxious Weeds.
Mr. Hughes Mr. Hughes
Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that weeds scheduled under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1936, are very prevalent on the lands of Donadea Demesne, County Kildare, which formerly formed part of the Aylmer Estate, and is now in the possession of the Land Commission; that such weeds were not cut by the Land Commission during the past season, and that by reason of their seeding, great hardship is imposed on the surrounding farmers, and if he will state what steps he intends taking to have these weeds cut, and to prevent such an occurrence in future.
Minister for Agriculture (Dr. Ryan) James Ryan
Minister for Agriculture (Dr. Ryan): The lands of Donadea Demesne are held not by the Land Commission, but by the Minister for Lands for State Forestry purposes. The statement in the latter part of the question is not in accordance with my information. I am informed by the Minister for Lands that the necessary measures were taken against the growth of noxious weeds on these as on other State forest lands, and that noxious weeds were cut on Donadea Demesne last season.
