Dáil Éireann - Volume 87 - 28 May, 1942 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions. Mr. Norton Mr. Norton Mr. Norton asked the Minister for Finance whether old age pensions granted to persons resident in Éire can be paid to them in the event of their transferring residence to Great Britain. Minister for Finance (Mr. O Ceallaigh) Seán T. O'Kelly Minister for Finance (Mr. O Ceallaigh): The general rule is that an old age pension granted in Éire may not be paid if the pensioner transfers residence to Great Britain. The only exception is in the case of a widow who becomes entitled to an old age pension under the provisions of Section 75 of the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Act, 1935, as amended. Mr. Norton Mr. Norton Mr. Norton: Will the Minister say whether it is not possible to make an exception in the case of friendless old age pensioners who desire to go to the Six Counties or Great Britain to join members of their families? Mr. O Ceallaigh Mr. O Ceallaigh Mr. O Ceallaigh: If there was any likelihood of reciprocity it could be considered. Mr. Norton Mr. Norton Mr. Norton: I think if the Minister examines the matter he will find there is reciprocity, that old age pensioners in Great Britain, who are not entitled to an old age pension at 65, can receive the old age pension if resident here. Mr. O Ceallaigh Mr. O Ceallaigh Mr. O Ceallaigh: For contributory old age pensions, I understand that is the arrangement. Mr. Norton Mr. Norton 284 [284] Mr. Norton: Old age pensions are not contributory in Great Britain; widows' and orphans' pensions are contributory. Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass Mr. Lemass: The old age pension is given at 65 and it is contributory. Mr. Norton Mr. Norton Mr. Norton: It is contributory for widows' and orphans' pensions.
