Dáil Éireann - Volume 53 - 12 June, 1934 Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of a Reservist. The O'Mahony The O'Mahony The O'Mahony asked the Minister for Defence whether he will state the period of service given (a) in the Army, and (b) in the Army Reserve by Gunner J. O'Donoghue, of Ballinstruer, Stratford-on-Slaney, and No. 72994, Artillery Barracks, Kildare; his character in the Army; and the date upon which he would normally be due for discharge from the Reserve; and if he is aware that he was recently called up for a month's training, but dismissed after two weeks of the training period and discharged from the Reserve; and if he will state the reasons for such discharge; and if he will also state for what reason his pay has been withheld from him. Mr. Aiken Mr. Aiken 10 [10] Mr. Aiken: Thomas O'Donoghue had one year 51 days Army and 254 days Reserve service; his character in the Army was “Very Good”. He was normally due for discharge on the 6th July, 1944. He was called up for training as stated and discharged from the Reserve on the 17th May, 1934, for the reason that his services were no longer required. All reserve pay due in this case has been issued. The O'Mahony The O'Mahony The O'Mahony: Am I correct in assuming that the real reason he was discharged from the Reserve was because he happened to be a member of the League of Youth?
