SEAMUS O LEADAIN asked the Minister for Finance if he will state upon what grounds in a case where Messrs. Suttons, Ltd., were applicants, the report for £138 10s., made by the County Court Judge, Mr. Justice Pigot, K.C., at Limerick, on the 6th December, 1923, was reduced to £15 4s. 6d.; if he is aware that the claim was fully investigated by the County Court Judge [1648] and resisted by the State Solicitor, and that the claim consisted of £195 for a motor car, and £9 10s. 6d. for coal seized by Irregulars during the investment of Limerick in June and July, 1922, and converted by them to their own use.

Mr. BLYTHE: The reduction to which the Deputy refers was made because I was advised that the evidence before the learned judge as to the circumstances in which the motor-car was taken did not justify his making a recommendation in respect of the loss. The amount actually paid was the amount recommended by the judge in respect of the loss of coal, plus costs and expenses of the hearing.
